TOSS or CUT
Posted Nov 18 2010 by Jody MacDonald
Remember when you were a kid, and the bread was mouldy, so your mom would cut it off and make you eat it. The bread I mean, not the mould. Ok, not all mom's did that, and I'm not ratting out my mom here, or any mom's I know, but I wanted to set the record straight.
According to NS Department of Agriculture, this is a listing that you may find handy in the interest of food safety.
Mould on foods:
TOSS:
Cucumbers
Tomatoes
Lettuce
Bananas, peaches
Breads, cakes, rolls
Berries
Yogurt
Peanut Butter
Jams/jellies
Soft Cheeses (mozzarella)
CUT and CONSUME:
Bell Peppers
Cabbage, Carrots, Broccoli, Cauliflower
Garlic, Onions
Potatoes
Turnip
Zucchini
Apples, Pears
Hard Cheese
Mould is biological cause of food borne illness. Always err on the side of caution. When it down, toss it out.
